Before you go

  • Ask about allergens when you order: US food law names nine major allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame), and kitchens can tell you which dishes contain them.
  • Restaurant inspection results are kept by the city or county health department; many publish them online or post the latest grade at the door.
  • For table service a tip of 15–20% is customary; at counter-service places tipping is optional.

My first time visiting Cova was back in June & it’s really a gem of a place! It kinda reminds me of NY cafes, but less stuffy & intimidating. There’s a warm communal vibe there. I love that they feature amazing art on the walls, with details about the artist. They also host intimate events. I was excited to order a(real)matcha drink with a lil strawberry, which was so refreshing, not too sweet & not too harsh. I like that there’s a nice variety of sweet treats as well as food & various beverages. Cova is a perfect place to get some work done, meet with a friend & take in some creativity, community & a lil culture. If you’re in Newark I’d highly recommend visiting..I know I can’t wait to go back!

I work around the area and tried this coffee shop for the first time this week — amazing coffee! The service is great, and the pastries and coffee are a delight. Everything is reasonably priced and I love the ambiance on the place. I found my favorite coffee spot during work days!

If you actually care to have good coffee, you’ll want to choose Cova over the other shops on Halsey. Great baristas (ask for Hector or Rhea) — Hector knew what I was feeling and guessed correctly to make me a custom pistachio, mocha—yum! But, that’s just the start. The shop is airy, the music playlist hits every time, and there’s snacks if your coffee is lonely and needs a pair. Your choice, sit by the huge windows & pick up a pick up a book from the selection inside, or be seated in a cozy spot outdoors. Cova is the perfect vibe to take a brain break or to get busy if you have work to do. Oh, and tell Ahmet, the owner hey. He loves to chat & knows all of his customers

I stumbled upon this spot a few months ago and I’ve been coming back ever since! I really appreciate the amazing quality of their matcha and customer service! My favorite is their strawberry iced matcha latte with oat milk! It creates the perfect blend of earthy and sweet, while also being aesthetically pleasing! The atmosphere is both pleasant and comforting, making it the perfect spot to either sit with friends or catch up on work! I recommend walking if you live, work, or go to school near the Halsey/ Downtown Newark area!

Cova Coffee is an absolute gem in Newark. The location could not be better—right near Rutgers University, Prudential Center, downtown Newark, and Newark Penn Station—so it is the perfect stop whether you are heading to class, commuting, or just exploring the city. What really stands out is the experience. The staff are incredibly hospitable, welcoming, and genuinely friendly, which makes every visit feel warm and personal. You can tell they care about their customers and take pride in what they serve. The Pistachio Latte is a must-try. It is rich, smooth, and full of flavor, with the perfect balance of espresso and pistachio sweetness. It feels like a special treat every time. Their sandwiches are fresh and delicious, making Cova Coffee a great spot for both a drink and a light meal. If you are in Newark and want a café with amazing drinks, tasty food, and truly kind service, Cova Coffee is easy to recommend.
